Shrimp bisque is a rich and elegant soup that is usually served in fine dining restaurants. And the thought of making it at home from scratch can be intimidation, but with this foolproof recipe even the beginner cooks can easily prepare homemade bisque. Bisque is basically a rich seafood chowder with an addition of cream. It is usually broth based and might have pureed vegetable as thickening agents and wine to intensify the taste. In my book it is pure heaven.

This shrimp bisque is a relatively inexpensive alternative to a fancy lobster bisque. And I might like it even better. It is rich, creamy, full of flavor and easy to make. A quadruple win. You can absolutely add any of your favorite seafood to the bisque though. It is great with crab meat and lobster as well.

The process of creating this culinary delight is pretty basic. Start building the flavors by sautéing the vegetables and the aromatics like garlic and onion. Deglaze the pot with white wine and add oil the stock and spices. Once all the flavors have time to meld together use an immersion blender to puree the bisque. Add raw or precooked shrimp and lace with  heavy cream.

The decadent and luxurious soup make a wonderful appetizer or a date nite meal. It is delicious, flavorful, nourishing and very simple. The hardest part is to wait for the bisque to be ready.
