But how long does it take to boil shrimp? The timing will depend on a few factors. First, the size of shrimps. It will take about 2-3 minutes in boiling water for small shrimp to boil. Ready shrimp must turn pink and roll into a small ball. Add another minute for jumbo shrimp.

Another thing is whether you are cooking fresh cooled shrimp or frozen and processed shrimp. The color is your tell tale sign. Pre-processed shrimp will be pink and it will only require defrosting and warming up. Fresh shrimp is naturally grayish.

All in all shrimp is the type of seafood that can be cook fastest, it will take you five minutes tops to have it cooked. Do not forget that for jumbo shrimps you will need to do deveining otherwise you will have sand on your teeth.  Once cooked, you can store the shrimp or keep it refrigerated for a few hours before you start cooking whatever dish you need the shrimp for.
