The recipe is very simple and involves only a few ingredients. You just add onions and bread crumbs to ground beef, form a little mound or a loaf, bake it and lather it with a few tablespoons of ketchup.
How easy is that? And yet, meatloaf can be easily spoiled if you don’t cook it for a required amount of time. If you undercook it, it will have excess moisture and the texture will be too mushy. If you cook it too long, it will be too dry and chewy.
So, exactly how long does one cook meatloaf to perfect condition?
The general rule is this: it will take about 30 minutes for each pound of meat. So a 2 pound meatloaf should be baked for at least an hour. As the prep time is only a few minutes, you can see that most meatloaf recipes will only involve your waiting time.
If you feel that you overdid it, you can sprinkle meatloaf with a bit of water and keep it at very low heat. It’s also recommended you let the meatloaf rest a big before serving.
If you are cooking small single portion meatloaves, like meatloaves in a cup or microwaving them, it will take about 8-10 minutes for a cup portion to get completely done in microwave.
