Out of the sea full of pizza topping combinations out there, Hawaiian or pineapple pizza is hands down one of my favorites. I love the timeless sweet and salty balance of flavors especially when paired with crispy crust and melty cheese.

This recipe for the pizza is even more special since we are using barbecue sauce as the base instead of classic marinara sauce. The multidimensional taste and exuberant flavors of the pizza are guaranteed to excite your taste buds. And it is so much better than the take out.

The bonus is it is easily made at home with just a handful of ingredients. I used store bough dough as a convenient shortcut but you can make your own if desire. You can also go a classic route and use marinara sauce instead of barbecue or combination of both. Pizza is topped with ham, fresh pineapple and mozzarella cheese. As an option you can add red onions for an extra bite and garnish with fresh cilantro for a beautiful pop of color and unbeatable freshness.

I always use whole milk, full fat, low moisture mozzarella cheese because it tastes and melts so much better. Pizza is baked at 425F in the oven on the pizza stone and I usually assemble it on the pizza paddle sprinkled with corn meal so it doesn’t stick.

This easy pizza is bursting with tropical flavors and all of the ingredients harmoniously work together. It is salty and sweet and cheesy, anything but boring for sure.
