Sweet potatoes aren’t generally a dessert food for me. I’m used to cooking and eating them as savory dishes, especially a lovely, slightly sweet side dish, with meat, gravy, vegetables. But boy, do I love a twist in a dessert, and using a traditionally savory base in a dessert is such a great twist.

If you love pumpkin pies, you are going to absolutely fall in love with this sweet potatо pie recipe. It has a lovely smooth texture and a distinct, unique sweet potato flavor. The coloring is a thing of beauty as well!

Try this recipe as an alternative with a twist to your regular fall time and thanksgiving recipes and I’m very sure you will not be disappointed.

I also love to use homemade roasted or baked sweet potatoes. I’m not even sure they come in canned variety, like a mixture for pumpkin pie does?

I use all the spices I also use for the pumpkin pie – cinnamon, a lot of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger – alternatively, and vanilla.

The result is simply exquisite. For me, it’s a perfect start of the day in the fall. When I bake it, the smell of spices fills the house and lingers and it’s absolutely lovely to breath it in. And when I wake up in the morning, even if it’s rainy and cold outside, I know that a piece of this heavenly goodness waits for me for breakfast and getting out of bed immediately becomes very easy and happy.

Have fun baking it!
