Sweet potatoes are a universally great vegetable. They can be used for desserts and savory dishes. This sweet potato pie is a delicious dessert with a homemade feeling, a tasty treat for a holiday season.

It looks a lot like pumpkin pie and I use similar spices for making it, but this sweet potato pie is a standalone dish. Sweet potatoes have a different texture compared to pumpkins. They are more tender and starchy and provide for a smoother filling without additional flour.

I’m not sure I’ve every baked this pie with anything else than fresh baked sweet potatoes. They are really easy to cook – just wrap them up in tin foil and put them in the oven till they are soft. If your sweet potatoes are large – you can cut them up into halves or quarters to cook faster.

After that it’s just a matter of following these simple instructions below, and you will have a delicious dish with traditional fall spices. And I absolutely love the deep ochre orange color of the filling when it’s baked!

Serve it with ice cream or whipped cream. It will be hard not to want seconds!
