My mom always says that there are as many meatloaf recipes as there are families. I absolutely agree. This meatloaf recipe comes from a friend who grew up in a large, loud, loving Italian family.

This Italian meatloaf incorporates everything I love about Italian cuisine. The herbs, the meat that is not too greasy and not too dry, flavorful parmesan cheese and rosemary baked potatoes on the side.

The twist in this recipe is that instead of just using ground beef, we add Italian sausages sans the wrapping. They are pretty fatty and already spiced very well, so that adds a lot of extra Italian flavor.

I also always add parmesan cheese into the mix and use Italian bread, Italian spiced croutons or breadcrumbs or add a bit of traditional Italian herbs, basil, oregano, thyme and rosemary.

The taste is intense and juicy and whatnot, and I even tried adding mozarella as a topping several minutes before removing the meatloaf from the oven and the result is absolutely scrumptious.

I usually serve this recipe with roasted potatoes, tossed with salt, pepper, rosemary, garlic and olive oil, but it’s great with right about any side dish of your choice. Just follow the easy steps below to make this Italian style meatloaf and I hope you enjoy it!
