When the leaves start turning beautiful kaleidoscope of fall colors everything starts smelling like apples in my house. I am a big fan of them. And they are so good for you as well. I make apple everything. This apple cinnamon cake however has a special place in my heart. It is absolutely delicious with luscious swirls of cinnamon apples and sweet glaze on top.

The cake is moist and spongy with a decadent filling made out of apples, cinnamon, butter, sugar and flour. The mixture is then swirled into the simple coffee cake batter and baked. The glaze is a combination of powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract. It sets on top of the warm, right out of the oven cake and crinkles beautifully when you dig in to the cake with a spoon. It is sure magic.

I especially love this cake as a breakfast item. The cake is rather sweet and is great with a strong espresso that offsets the sweetness with its fragrant bitterness. The combination is divine. I also love to serve it with a side of salty bacon for the same reason.

To make a cake is not challenging at all but you need to follow a few simple steps to get it just right. The cake is especially wonderful when freshly baked, with gooey middle filled to the brim with apple stuffing and sugary glaze on top. People are always raving about it and begging me for the recipe. This is a small portion recipe for 4 people because the cake is best when eaten fresh.
